Democratic Rep. Cori Bush of Missouri, known for her far-left views, is facing a Department of Justice criminal investigation for allegedly misusing funds allocated for security. Reports indicate that the St. Louis Democrat is being accused of misspending federal security money.

The news broke when Punchbowl News founder Jake Sherman took to social media to reveal the investigation. According to Sherman, the Justice Department has subpoenaed the House Sergeant at Arms for records related to Bush’s alleged misspending. It appears that Bush has spent over $750,000 of government funds on security in less than two terms as a congresswoman.
What makes matters more concerning is that Bush’s husband, Cortney Merritts, who had no background in private security, received over $60,000 of those funds while working as a security guard for her re-election campaign in 2022. The New York Post reported this information last February.
The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust, a nonprofit group, requested the Federal Election Commission to investigate Bush. Merritts was paid a total of $62,000 to provide security for his wife, despite having no apparent training or licensures.
When confronted about the investigation, Bush declined to comment and reportedly complained about a toothache. It remains to be seen what the DOJ’s investigation will uncover, but this is certainly a troubling situation for the Missouri congresswoman.
Cori Bush was elected to the House in 2020 and quickly aligned herself with the so-called “squad” of progressive lawmakers, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, and Ilhan Omar. This latest development raises questions about the integrity and ethics of the far-left faction within the Democratic Party.
