Republican Senator Ted Cruz from Texas is calling for an investigation into the beer company Bud Light, because of its partnership with a transgender influencer, Dylan Mulvaney. Cruz says that the star targets her social media posts at children, violating laws against advertising alcohol to young people. On Thursday, Cruz and another Republican senator, Marsha Blackburn from Tennessee, wrote a letter to the Beer Institute Chairman, who is also the CEO of Bud Light’s parent company, Anheuser-Busch. They asked the Code Compliance Review Board to investigate whether Bud Light has broken any advertising laws.

Cruz and Blackburn listed a series of requests for documents that they claim will help Congress decide whether action should be taken in response to the controversy surrounding the beer industry. They suggested that the Beer Institute could avoid a lengthy investigation by ending Bud Light’s relationship with Dylan Mulvaney, apologizing to the American people, and directing Mulvaney to remove any content related to Anheuser-Busch from her social media platforms.

In an interview with Fox, Senator Cruz expanded on the letter sent to the Beer Institute Chairman. Cruz stated that “beer companies are not supposed to market to kids,” and he believes that Bud Light was trying to target teenagers with their ill-fated marketing attempt. He pointed out that Dylan Mulvaney’s audience consists mainly of kids, and Bud Light should have avoided marketing to young people.
Senator Cruz’s concerns about Dylan Mulvaney’s audience, have been backed up by evidence which suggests they are younger than the legal drinking age. They believe that Bud Light’s partnership with Mulvaney violates their Advertising/Marketing Code and Buying Guidelines and that Anheuser-Busch needs to take action to rectify the situation.
It’s refreshing to see a senator caring about the well-being of young people, and using his power to make things right. It’s time for Bud Light to take responsibility and stop using Dylan Mulvaney to market to our children.
