Republican Senator from Texas, Ted Cruz recently called out the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funded organization, University of Dayton’s PREVENTS-OH program, for their slanderous comparison of conservatives to terrorists. According to Fox News, documents obtained by the conservative media watchdog, Media Research Center (MRC), revealed that the Biden administration’s DHS granted the university’s program $352,109 under the Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention (TVTP) Grant Program. The grant was aimed at fighting against domestic extremism and hate movements.
The PREVENTS-OH program recognizes the domestic extremist and hate movements as potential threats with the funding provided by DHS. However, their grant application included a “Pyramid of Far-Right Radicalization”, where companies and groups such as Fox News, The Heritage Foundation, the Republican Party and the Make America Great Again were positioned at the bottom of the pyramid alongside neo-Nazi militia The Base and Nazi publication The Daily Stormer. Cruz highlighted the absurdity of this comparison, and the fact that the government is funding it, on his show “Verdict with Ted Cruz”.

Cruz urged the House to hold the Biden administration accountable for its actions, and demanded hearings on the subject. Speaking on his podcast, Cruz expressed his disappointment to his listeners that they were not included on the list and further stated, “It is not they’re engaged in propaganda and the propaganda is saying that anyone right of center is a terrorist, anyone right of center is a Nazi. Anyone right of center is a Klansman, it is the vicious lie that the radical left pushes often, but it is not look, if they want to say that that’s fine. But why is the government funding this? They’re funding it because they want to give fuel to the fire attacking those they view as enemies of the regime.”
Cruz’s comments highlight a worrying trend of the Biden administration using federal resources to target conservatives and label them as terrorists. It is a gross misapplication of taxpayer funds, and the Biden administration must be held accountable for it. The House and Senate should investigate this matter, but unfortunately, given the lack of concern from Senate Democrats, it seems unlikely that the Senate will take action. Nevertheless, it is critical that the House takes the lead and holds hearings on this issue. The government cannot continue to weaponize federal resources to push propaganda that targets political enemies.
