Republican Senator Ted Cruz and a group of GOP Senators reintroduced a groundbreaking piece of legislation named ‘Stop Dangerous Sanctuary Cities Act’ that will rob sanctuary cities of taxpayer-funded grants and enable local law enforcement to collaborate with federal immigration authorities. Reportedly, The Daily Caller obtained a copy of the bill that will specifically defund sanctuary cities. “Sanctuary cities” are infamous for not implementing the laws and releasing criminals-immigrants, including rapists and murderers, who further use the opportunity to prey on both the immigrant community and American citizens. Supporting the bill, Ted Cruz told The Caller that these cities actively prevent law enforcement from coordinating with their federal counterparts, releasing burglars, rapists, and murderers who further harm the community.

Senator Ted Cruz further added that the American people, and Texas communities, in particular, have had enough of the flouting of the laws and increase in the crimes that often follow illegal immigration. He also promised to ensure that the “jurisdictions need to be held accountable,” and he will use his power to enforce immigration laws. Cruz was also supported by a team of Senators who co-sponsored the legislation, including Hagerty (R-Tenn.), Cornyn (R-Texas), Capito (R-W.Va.), Grassley (R-Iowa), Tillis (R-N.C.), Braun (R-Ind.), Johnson (R-Wis.), Ricketts (R-Neb.), Rounds (R-S.D.), Ernst (R-Iowa), Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Hoeven (R-N.D.), Tuberville (R-Ala.), Boozman (R-Ark.), and Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.). It is essential to note that the bill previously got bipartisan support in 2018; however, it was unsuccessful due to filibuster.
Illegal immigration is a severe problem, and these sanctuary cities give them room to harm and further increase the crime rate. Cruz highlighted that the legislation would be an effective solution to a long standing issue in the United States that has gone unnoticed for far too long. Despite its previous failure due to filibuster, the bill stands a chance in the current situation in Washington. Ted Cruz has always been a fighter for his constituents and their safety, and this recent action proves his dedication to his people. It’s high time that everyone takes this opportunity to do away with such dangerous cities and ensure safety for every citizen.
