In a tragic incident at a private Christian school in Tennessee, three students and two adults lost their lives to an active shooter in the midst of their school day. This shocking and horrible incident shook the community to its core, leaving families devastated and wondering why this tragedy had to happen in their safe and nurturing school environment.

As first responders sprang into action, the Nashville Fire Department treated “multiple patients” following reports of an “active aggressor.” The Metro Nashville Police Department quickly engaged with the shooter, neutralizing the threat and bringing this terrifying ordeal to an end.

While firefighters and police officers worked to save lives, five patients, including children and adults, were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment. Tragically, all five patients were pronounced dead upon arrival. This devastating loss of life leaves us all to wonder about the senselessness of such violence and heartbreak.
In response to this tragedy, an area in Tennessee surrounding the site of the shooting was closed by the Tennessee Department of Transportation for public safety. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives even sent agents to the school in order to respond to the report of the active shooter.
Our hearts go out to the victims and their families. School should be a safe and nurturing place for children to learn and grow, and the violence that occurred on this day is unacceptable. As we look for answers and try to make sense of this tragedy, our community must come together to support those affected by this senseless act of violence.
