President Biden finally broke his silence on the matter during an unscheduled speech from the Roosevelt Room at the White House. In his address, he emphasized that violent protests are not protected under the law and stressed the distinction between peaceful and violent demonstrations. Despite the protests leading to clashes and numerous arrests, Biden refrained from endorsing the deployment of the National Guard to quell the protests and maintained his stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict.
The GOP and the Republican National Committee (RNC) expressed strong criticism of Biden’s approach. Leavitt attributed the protests to Biden’s foreign policy failures and weakness, connecting them to chaos both domestically and internationally. Additionally, the RNC’s social media team condemned Biden’s speech for not explicitly denouncing the pro-Hamas mobs, insinuating that Biden’s reluctance to condemn them was tied to his reliance on their votes. Former President Donald Trump also joined the chorus of criticism, characterizing the protests as part of a “radical left revolution” and questioning Biden’s absence during the unrest.
Trump’s support for law enforcement and his praise for the New York Police Department’s handling of the protests at Columbia University were also highlighted. The former President commended the swift resolution of the unrest, emphasizing the importance of protecting landmark buildings.
