Donald Trump is very much alive and well, and guess what, folks? He’s in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, all set to make a grand appearance at the Republican National Convention, which kicks off this Monday. This comes hot on the heels of an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump miraculously escaped a gunman by mere millimeters. The shooter, a young radical named Thomas Matthew Crooks, took a sniper’s position, hoping to silence Trump for good. The bullet clipped Trump’s ear, but he emerged unscathed – a little less ear, but a lot more resolve.
Ah, the left must be crying in their vegan lattes. Trump obliterated Biden in the June 27 debate, and now, surviving an assassination attempt? Talk about sealing the re-election deal. The word on the street is that even liberal Democrats on Capitol Hill are quietly resigning themselves to the reality of Trump 2.0. One senior House Democrat reportedly conveyed a fatalistic acceptance that Trump will be ruling from the Oval Office again in January. For now, the anti-Biden campaign within the Democratic Party seems to have lost its steam in the wake of the attempted assassination.

And wouldn’t you know it, the Democratic establishment is taking a backseat. Another Democratic House member mentioned that the assassination attempt has cooled down the rhetoric against Biden. Making heated statements post-shooting? Apparently, it's bad PR. Even Biden, the master of evasive maneuvering, has paused, pulling campaign ads and postponing a scheduled visit to Austin, Texas. Condemn the shooting, call Trump, and then retreat – seems to be the strategy.
The Washington drama is definitely not over. While some politicians are cautiously optimistic that the current lull might last until the Democratic National Convention, others aren’t so sure. A second senior House Democrat offered a deadpan assessment: the party has internally accepted a second Trump presidency. Note the salt in the wound from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who suggested that any Democrat surrendering to a Trump victory should just retire.
