Trump Lawyers Want Trial Delayed Until 2024 – Denied!

Last week, a website called Law & Crime reported something that just makes you shake your head in disbelief. Attorneys for former President Donald Trump had the audacity to ask a federal judge to schedule his classified documents trial after the 2024 election. Can you believe it? It’s like they think they can just postpone the inevitable until it’s politically convenient for them.

Well, let me tell you, Special Counsel Jack Smith was having none of it. He lashed out at Trump’s legal team in a motion filed this week and boy, did he have some choice words for them. He called their claim of “ongoing discovery failures” just a bunch of hogwash. It’s clear that the defense is grasping at straws here, trying to make it seem like Smith is the one responsible for their inability to mount a proper defense. Nice try, but we’re not buying it.

And get this, Trump’s lawyers have the audacity to complain about the “accelerated schedule” and claim that it will require “multiple rounds of CIPA litigation.” Now, I know what you’re thinking, what in the world is CIPA? Well, it stands for the Classified Information Procedures Act, which basically governs the rules of discovery for cases involving classified documents. Sounds like they’re just trying to muddy the waters with legal jargon to me.

But that’s not all. Trump’s defense team also pointed out that one of their attorneys, Christopher Kise, is facing “scheduling challenges” because he’s also defending Trump in a New York civil fraud trial and a Washington, D.C. criminal case concerning the 2020 election. Cry me a river! These guys are playing a high-stakes game of legal juggling, and it’s clear that they’re trying to use any excuse they can to delay the inevitable.

Of course, Special Counsel Jack Smith wasn’t about to let them off the hook that easily. He fired back with a filing of his own, calling the defense’s claims “distorted and exaggerated.” I couldn’t agree more. Smith pointed out that Trump has already benefited from “extensive, prompt, and well-organized unclassified discovery.” In other words, he’s had plenty of time to prepare and gather evidence for his defense. So, why should we delay the trial just because Trump’s lawyers can’t get their act together?

In the end, Smith made it clear that there is “no credible justification” to postpone the trial. And I couldn’t agree more. We can’t let Trump and his legal team play these games and try to avoid accountability. The American people deserve to see justice served, and that means holding the former president accountable for any wrongdoing. So, let’s move forward with the trial and put an end to these ridiculous attempts to delay justice.
