Former President Donald Trump vehemently denied the accusation made by President Joe Biden that he forgot his wife’s name during a recent speech, calling it a “fake story” orchestrated by “radical Democrats.” Trump, always ready to hit back, asserted that the real issue at hand is Biden’s mental and physical fitness to lead the country, calling the current President a “basket case.”
During a jovial appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Biden took a swipe at Trump, claiming that he had forgotten the name of his wife, Melania, at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference. However, Trump brushed off the allegation, clarifying that he was actually emphasizing how popular his wife is, causing the CPAC audience to go “wild.” Trump playfully pointed out the audience’s affinity for the first lady, which some critics cynically misconstrued as mistaking Mercedes Schlapp, CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp’s wife, for Melania Trump.
Setting the record straight, Trump refuted these claims by affirming that his words had nothing to do with Mercedes being mistaken for the first lady, dismissing the allegations as “really dishonest.” In addition, he addressed past instances where he seemingly confused President Biden with former President Barack Obama, attributing these slip-ups to “comedic reasons and sarcasm.” Trump slyly suggested that many people believe Obama, not Biden, is the one running the country, fueling doubts about Biden’s capacity to lead due to his purported penchant for snoozing.
Moreover, the discussion veered towards Biden’s decision to forego a cognitive test during his recent physical exam, sparking controversy amidst ongoing concerns about his mental acuity. Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX), a former White House physician, lambasted the White House’s decision, deeming it a “ridiculous” attempt to sweep the issue under the rug. Jackson blasted the lack of transparency and called Dr. O’Connor’s handling of the situation a “complete joke,” highlighting the White House’s reluctance to address pressing questions about Biden’s cognitive fitness.
As the 2024 presidential race looms ahead, a poll conducted across seven swing states revealed that Trump is leading Biden, further underscoring doubts about Biden’s suitability for the presidency. A staggering 8 in 10 voters expressed reservations about Biden’s age, while nearly 6 in 10 voters labeled Trump as “dangerous.” Additionally, the poll indicated a public sentiment favoring Trump’s mental acuity over Biden’s, signaling a notable advantage for the former President in the upcoming political showdown.
