There’s a flag feud at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill that’s got everyone talking! It’s like a game of capture the flag, but with a serious political twist.

Apparently, UNC-Chapel Hill Chancellor Lee H. Roberts had to play flag referee when pro-Palestinian protesters decided to swap out Old Glory with the Palestinian flag. Not on his watch! He raised the American flag right back up to its rightful place at the top of the flag pole.
Those pro-Palestinian folks weren’t backing down. They tried to wrestle that star-spangled banner back down again! That’s when a group of brave students rushed in like superheroes to save the day. They formed a human shield around the flag, ready to defend it from the flag snatchers.
One student, Guillermo Estrada, took to the Twittersphere to share his dismay at seeing the American flag disrespected. He may not be an expert on the Israel/Palestine conflict, but he knows a flag faux pas when he sees one. And when Chancellor Roberts and the police officers swooped in to hang the flag back up, the chaos erupted like a political piñata.
The Greek community even joined in on the anthem action by singing the national anthem. And then, when the protestors made another grab for the flag, these brave students stood their ground, enduring insults and even a rain of water bottles just to keep that flag flying high.
The cavalry arrived online too, with former Vice President Mike Pence, Senator Marco Rubio, and a handful of other lawmakers hailing the students as stars and stripes superheroes. They saluted the students for their courage and unwavering American spirit.
Meanwhile, across the ivy-covered walls at Harvard University, a similar flag flap unfolded, with anti-Israel protesters trading the American flag for the Palestinian one. It’s like a trend among the protest crowd – flag swapping 101.
So, in the battle of the flags, it looks like the red, white, and blue emerged victorious, thanks to a squad of students who refused to let their flag hit the dirt. It’s a reminder that no matter the political storm brewing, there are always patriots willing to stand up for what they believe in – and that’s the kind of American spirit that deserves a salute and a round of applause.
