Mike Johnson, a conservative lawmaker from Louisiana, was elected as Speaker of the House of Representatives on Wednesday. According to Johnson, “Twitter was basically an FBI subsidiary before @elonmusk took it over.” He emphasized that this issue should concern everyone, as it goes against the constitutional principle that the government should not dictate acceptable speech.

Johnson’s win came after receiving 220 votes in the lower chamber of Congress. He is the fourth Republican to be nominated for the position since Kevin McCarthy’s removal on October 3rd. Following his election, Johnson expressed his gratitude but also mentioned the trials his wife faced when trying to attend his installation as Speaker due to last-minute negotiations. He assured the public that he would prioritize free speech, border security, inflation, and the conflict in the Middle East.
In response to Johnson’s election, several representatives focused on the budget issue, stressing the need for immediate action. Meanwhile, Democrats had a complete meltdown over Johnson’s victory, labeling him as an insurrectionist and an extremist. This reaction from the left once again highlights the increasing divide between Republicans and Democrats.
