A newly released whistleblower disclosure has raised alarms about the U.S. Postal Service’s hurried rollout of a ballot-management system that could, according to an insider, keep millions of Americans from getting their mail-in ballots this November. The report describes the effort as “risky and haphazard,” and it’s being used by opponents to paint a picture of incompetence at an agency charged with a sacred duty: delivering the people’s mail.
At the center of the dispute is a new rule that conditions delivery of absentee ballots on states uploading voter information and envelope barcodes to a federally run portal known internally as the Federal Ballot Mail Portal. Proponents say the change is meant to bring uniformity and accountability to a system that was exploited in parts in 2020, but critics — and now a whistleblower — warn the portal was put together too quickly and without adequate safeguards.
The whistleblower’s disclosure paints a chilling picture: a minimally tested IT system, resumed work despite court orders, and what is described as a “zero-percent failure” policy that could reject entire batches of ballots for a single scanning error. If true, that’s not just sloppy — it’s potentially catastrophic for voters who rely on absentee ballots, especially seniors and servicemembers.
Courts have been wrestling with the rule for months; lower courts briefly blocked it while legal challenges moved through the system, and the Supreme Court recently allowed the policy to take effect, creating rush and uncertainty right as some states prepare to start mailing ballots. That legal back-and-forth does not excuse an agency building out a mission-critical system without fully testing it under real-world conditions.
Patriots who care about election integrity should be clear-eyed: demanding secure ballots is not the same thing as sabotaging access. But insisting on checks and balances means we must also insist the Postal Service stop gambling with voters’ rights — no matter whose policy it is implementing — until the system is proven safe. Congress and Republican governors should press for an immediate, transparent pause and independent verification before a single absentee batch is entrusted to this untested portal.
At the same time, rank-and-file Americans should protect themselves: request ballots early, opt for in-person voting where feasible, and verify tracking with local election offices now rather than later. The last thing hardworking citizens need is to be disenfranchised because of a bureaucratic rush job or political theater inside Postal Service headquarters.
This isn’t a time for partisan grandstanding — it’s a time for accountability. The whistleblower may be anonymous, but the facts they raise deserve swift, bipartisan scrutiny, full disclosure of who ordered work to continue, and guaranteed safeguards so every lawful vote is counted. Americans deserve a Postal Service that delivers both the mail and trust in our elections, not excuses.
