Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat, chose to skip attending the funeral of fallen police officer William Butler Jr. in order to head to Washington, D.C. for a private meeting with President Joe Biden. Whitmer’s decision to prioritize hobnobbing with Biden over paying respects to a hero who died in the line of duty certainly raises eyebrows.
Officer Butler tragically lost his life in a shootout while apprehending a dangerous suspect. His funeral was attended by a significant number of local law enforcement officers, demonstrating the respect and solidarity within the law enforcement community. Despite this show of support, Whitmer seemed more interested in cozying up to the Democrat elite in the nation’s capital.
Whitmer isn’t the only Democratic governor putting Biden before all else. Governor Gavin Newsom of California also jetted off to D.C. during a wildfire crisis in his state to show his loyalty to the Biden administration. It’s becoming increasingly apparent that for some Democrats, political posturing takes precedence over fulfilling their duties to the citizens who elected them.
While some governors chose to attend the meeting virtually, Whitmer and Newsom made sure to be physically present at the White House, clearly signaling where their allegiances lie. Biden himself made it known during a Democratic National Committee call that he has no intention of stepping down and is determined to stay in the race until the bitter end, despite growing concerns about his fitness for office.

It’s a stark reminder that, for these Democrat governors and Biden himself, politics will always come first, even at the expense of honoring a fallen officer or addressing pressing emergencies in their own states. Their actions speak volumes about their priorities, and it’s up to the American people to hold them accountable for their disregard for duty and respect.
