93 Arrested, Campus Closed After USC Protest Turns Violent

During a pro-Palestinian demonstration at the University of Southern California on Wednesday, 93 people were arrested, and one protester was charged with assault with a deadly weapon. After the protests, USC announced that the campus would remain closed.

The demonstration began at 4 p.m., and at 5 p.m., USC’s Department of Public Safety warned the protesters to disperse or face arrest. Despite the warnings, many protesters defied the orders and gathered around the officers, chanting loudly.

The LAPD then issued another warning to the protesters to leave the area or face arrest for trespassing. When the protesters did not comply, police officers began clearing them out, resulting in 93 arrests.

Captain Kelly Muniz of the LAPD reported that there was an altercation during the protest, and one person was arrested for assaulting a police officer with a deadly weapon. Muniz explained that the protesters were violating the university’s orders, leading to trespassing arrests.

The incident at USC highlights the importance of maintaining order and respecting the rules of private property. Protesters have the right to voice their opinions, but they must do so peacefully and within the confines of the law. USC and law enforcement acted appropriately to ensure the safety and security of the campus.
