In a typical move, the progressive firebrand Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who just can’t seem to resist stirring the pot, took aim at the GOP’s newest choice for House Speaker, Congressman Mike Johnson. Ocasio-Cortez, who seems to find conspiracy theories under every rock, accused Johnson of being a mastermind behind the alleged “strategy” to overturn the 2020 presidential election. She even had the audacity to bring up a video showing Johnson’s behavior towards a Congressional correspondent. Oh, the horror!

Of course, Ocasio-Cortez conveniently left out any actual evidence to support her wild claims. But who needs facts when you have a good old-fashioned smear campaign to run? It’s clear that Ocasio-Cortez is simply trying to tarnish Johnson’s reputation in an effort to further her own agenda.
Not to be outdone, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries chimed in with his own concerns about Johnson’s nomination. He claimed that despite Johnson’s pleasant demeanor, his voting record was just as extreme as the most extreme members of his conference. Well, that’s a bold statement coming from someone who is obviously skilled in the art of political hyperbole.
In a surprising twist, Johnson secured the Republican conference’s nomination for House Speaker after a chaotic series of votes and withdrawals. It seems that even within their own party, Republicans couldn’t come to a consensus on who should lead them. But hey, at least they eventually settled on Johnson, and the room reportedly erupted in celebration with chants of “Mike!”
Now, Johnson is poised to face a floor vote on Wednesday. If he comes out victorious, he will take over the position of House Speaker just three weeks after the dismissal of Kevin McCarthy. And you can bet that the Democrats, led by Ocasio-Cortez, will waste no time in digging through Johnson’s record and associations with a fine-toothed comb. It’s no surprise that they’re already salivating at the opportunity to try and tear him down. But hey, that’s just politics as usual.
