Biden Shaken by Aid Workers’ Deaths in Gaza Strike

The White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, announced today that President Joe Biden is feeling “absolutely devastated” by the tragic Israeli airstrike that took the lives of several humanitarian aid workers in Gaza. The president has reached out to chef Jose Andres, founder of World Central Kitchen, to convey his heartfelt condolences for the loss of at least seven workers in the drone strike.

During a press briefing at the White House, both Jean-Pierre and National Security Council spokesman John Kirby expressed the administration’s deep sorrow over the airstrike. They emphasized the president’s grief and his recognition of the significant contributions made by World Central Kitchen to the people of Gaza and around the world.

Kirby also called for a thorough and transparent investigation into the attack, urging that the results be made public promptly. The White House is particularly concerned as the number of American casualties from the strike is still uncertain, with the potential for the death toll to rise in the coming days.

The administration has refrained from endorsing Israel’s assertion that the strike on the WCK convoy was not deliberate, and they have stopped short of accusing Israel of violating international law. In the ongoing conflict since October 7, more than 200 aid workers have tragically lost their lives.

The president’s heartfelt condolences and his anguish over the loss of these aid workers serve as a testament to his deep commitment to humanitarian causes and his concern for the impact of the ongoing conflict in the region.
