The Washington Examiner’s Byron York took a look at the Democratic Party’s shift on illegal immigration and found that things ain’t what they used to be. York, the head honcho political correspondent for the Washington Examiner, pointed out that back in the day, Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama weren’t exactly rolling out the welcome mat for illegal immigrants. It used to be a real “both sides” kinda issue, but according to York, that’s all changed now.
York made a pit stop at Fox News’s America Reports to give his two cents on the matter. And let me tell you, he didn’t hold back. He jabbed at the Democratic evolution on illegal immigration, claiming that the Democrats have done a 180 and are now all about that pro-illegal immigrant vibe. Even politicians like Bernie Sanders, who used to say “no way” to immigration reform, are now singing a different tune.

But wait, there’s more! York also brought up a blast from the past—2006 to be exact. He dug up an old clip of Senator Joe Biden talking about how he voted for a 700-mile fence along the southern border. Fast forward to now, and Biden’s got some serious beef with Governor Greg Abbott over border security. It’s like a real-life soap opera!
Now, here’s where it gets juicy. Congress had initially given the thumbs up to the Secure Fence Act of 2006, but then they were all like, “Nah, we’re good,” and the fence never got built. This decision, or should we say indecision, paved the way for Donald Trump to run on the whole border wall thing when he ran for president in 2016. It’s all starting to sound like a game of political hot potato, isn’t it?
And speaking of politics, it looks like the folks at The Center Square Voters’ Voice Poll have been doing some snooping. Turns out, illegal immigration is getting folks all riled up, coming in as the second biggest concern for likely voters ahead of the 2024 election. It’s right up there, just behind inflation. This poll was no small potatoes, either, with 2,510 voters getting in on the action. Looks like folks on both sides of the aisle are feeling some type of way about this issue.
The 2024 presidential election is shaping up to be a real nail-biter, with Trump and Biden potentially going head to head again. Trump’s even gearing up for a pit stop in Michigan to give Biden’s border policies a good ol’ fashioned roasting. It’s like the political version of a heavyweight title fight!
So, ya see, the tides are a-changin’, and it’s anyone’s guess which way the wind will blow on the whole illegal immigration gig. One thing’s for sure—this little number is gonna stay center stage in the big political show for a good long while.
