The liberal stronghold of college towns is no longer a guaranteed win for the Democratic Party. In the days of Obama, these areas were a sure bet, but now that it’s the Biden era, things are a bit up in the air. The president, known for his forgetfulness about his son and his lack of appeal to young voters, is facing criticism from the far left over the war in Gaza.

College campuses have become hotbeds for spreading propaganda in support of Hamas. While Obama was able to rally young voters to his cause, Biden is struggling to connect with them, as many view him as complicit in genocide. This dissatisfaction has led to over 500,000 Democrats voting “uncommitted” in the primaries, with some pro-Hamas delegates making their way to the national convention.
This “uncommitted” movement, which initially gained traction in Michigan, has now garnered over 530,000 votes across the country. The campaign has secured delegates in states like Minnesota, Hawaii, Michigan, and possibly Washington. In pivotal battleground states like Wisconsin, the support for the “uninstructed delegation” option matched Biden’s total in key campus precincts.
In Wisconsin, the “uninstructed delegation” option received over 48,000 votes, which is more than double Biden’s 2020 margin of victory. The movement also gained significant support in Dane County (Madison) and Milwaukee, as well as some rural areas. Similar trends were observed in Connecticut, New York, and Rhode Island, raising concerns for the Democratic Party’s prospects in the upcoming presidential election.
With Biden’s support waning among young voters, minorities, and now Muslim Americans, he is increasingly reliant on single, college-educated women as his base of support. The president’s appeal is dwindling, and efforts to rally his base are being complicated by the growing pro-Hamas faction within the party.
While Biden may listen to these activists, his commitment to supporting Israel is unwavering. This stance may further alienate these left-wing factions, potentially affecting voter turnout in Arab communities in crucial swing states. As the Democratic National Convention approaches, there are concerns about the potential disruptions from this dissenting group, especially given Biden’s perceived lack of political acumen.
Overall, the challenges facing the Biden administration are significant, particularly with regards to coalition-building and managing internal divisions within the party. It remains to be seen how the president will navigate these complex dynamics amidst growing discontent and criticisms of his leadership.
