In a galaxy not so far away, there seems to be a cinematic catastrophe unfolding like a bad sequel. We’re talking about the much beloved Star Wars universe, which has seen some interesting changes recently. Kathleen Kennedy, who was put in charge of the franchise over a decade ago, managed to steer the Star Wars ship into some rather choppy waters. Instead of continuing to delight millions of fans across the globe, she seems to have gone so far off course that even GPS wouldn’t help her find her way back.
Kathleen’s version of Star Wars seemed to be more about making waves than smooth sailing. With creative decisions that left original characters adrift and fans puzzling over their popcorn, she turned what was once a universal favorite into something resembling an alien language. Under the guise of modernizing the franchise, it appears she instead concocted a brew of what some might call ‘woke slop,’ creating narratives more divisive than unifying. This was no Jedi mind trick—it was something else entirely.
Disney, too, played its role in this drama—it seems they built an impressive Star Wars theme park but initially focused more on newer content from the franchise instead of the iconic characters. While significant portions of the Star Wars experience focus on newer films and storylines with an immersive world set on the planet Batuu, there was a perception among some fans that beloved original characters weren’t as prominently featured during its debut. However, classic elements such as John Williams’ scores have always been a mainstay.
The moral of this galactic saga? When creating new worlds, sometimes it’s best to remember what people loved about the old ones. Kennedy’s dream of rewriting the past with a new direction might have sounded good in theory, but in practice, it sent shockwaves of disappointment across the Star Wars-loving universe. It turns out fans prefer the dazzling starships and legendary heroes they grew up with—go figure! So here’s hoping the new changes bring balance back to the force, because if anything’s clear, it’s that Star Wars fans are ready to forgive a lot. But, as they say, fool me twice, shame on you—or in this case, shame on whoever thought it was a good idea to invite everyone to a party except the guests of honor.
