DOJ Nears $100 Million Deal in Nassar Case, Taxpayers Foot Bill

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is close to wrapping up a deal with the victims of former U.S. gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar, who was found guilty of sexual abuse. The settlement could cost taxpayers around $100 million, as stated by the Wall Street Journal. That’s a lot of money!

The settlement stems from accusations that the FBI didn’t do enough to investigate the abuse claims against Nassar. The gymnasts filed administrative tort claims, alleging that the FBI dropped the ball in their handling of Nassar’s case. This just goes to show how bloated the government can be when it comes to not doing its job!

After the settlement is finalized, it will make a whopping $1 billion that Nassar’s victims have received. That’s a whole lot of moolah! Michigan State University, where complaints against Nassar were disregarded, coughed up $500 million in 2018. Then, in 2021, USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee shelled out $380 million. That’s a lot of money swirling around!

Star gymnasts were among Nassar’s victims, including Simone Biles, McKayla Maroney, Maggie Nichols, and Aly Raisman. These talented athletes were greatly affected by Nassar’s despicable actions, and now they’re getting justice. Good for them!

Nassar’s abuse went on for years, and various organizations and the FBI were slammed for trying to sweep the complaints under the rug. It’s disappointing how so many groups failed to handle the situation properly. What a mess!

The Justice Department found that the FBI really dropped the ball in its investigation of Nassar. It’s quite troubling how many levels of the FBI seemed to mess up. Talk about a blunder!

Let’s not forget that Nassar is currently serving a lengthy prison sentence after being found guilty. He was even attacked by another inmate while in prison. Looks like even his fellow inmates know how despicable his actions were!
