France Fortifies New Year’s with 90K Security Forces Amid Terror Fears

The French ain’t messin’ around when it comes to keepin’ their citizens safe, especially when it comes to ringin’ in the new year. They got tens of thousands of police officers and gendarmes ready to go for New Year’s Eve because, listen up, folks, they’ve been warned of a “very high” terror threat. Yeah, you heard it right, a VERY high threat. The French interior minister, Gérard Darmanin, ain’t playin’ games either. He asked for a “very strong mobilization” of police forces because of the terror threat, which he attributes to the situation in Israel and Palestine.

They’re throwin’ everything but the kitchen sink at this security situation, with 90,000 police officers and gendarmes, 5,000 soldiers from Operation Sentinel, and even 35,000 firefighters in on the action. And in Paris, they’re gonna have 6,000 officers on patrol.

But get this, there’s even drama with the local police officers in Paris. The ones who don’t carry guns, they decided to go on strike on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day to demand higher wages. They’re supposed to be keepin’ the peace, but now they’re causin’ a ruckus of their own.

France is still planning to host the 2024 Summer Olympics. I mean, seriously, talk about optimism! The officials are sayin’ there’s no “plan B” for the opening ceremony, even after recent attacks by some bad apples. They’re stickin’ to their guns and sayin’ they can secure the event.
