GOP Pressures Biden Admin Over Alleged Trump Case Collusion

The Biden administration is facing increasing pressure to reveal records that may show collusion between the Justice Department and state prosecutors in the hush money case against former President Donald Trump. Several Republicans from different levels of government are demanding documents, with West Virginia launching a new investigation on Monday.

West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, a friend of Trump, has asked the DOJ to produce documents regarding a former DOJ employee who transitioned to employment by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, which is prosecuting Trump in the 34-count hush money case. Morrisey believes the move of the third-highest ranking DOJ official to the district attorney’s office to help prosecute the criminal case demonstrates collusion. He also noted that the official was paid thousands of dollars by the Democratic National Committee.

Morrisey’s investigation is similar to a request by Republican Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey, who criticized Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for fulfilling a campaign promise by going after Trump. Bailey accused Bragg’s decision of keeping former President Trump off the campaign trail, which President Biden has allegedly bragged about.

The House Judiciary Committee has also joined in the pressure to investigate the alleged collusion. Representative Jim Jordan expressed concerns about a former senior Biden Justice Department official leading the prosecution of President Biden’s chief political rival, adding to the perception that the Biden Justice Department is politicized and weaponized.

Former President Trump is facing criminal indictments in two federal cases, including an alleged conspiracy to subvert the 2020 election and mishandling of classified documents. He has also been accused of leading a criminal enterprise with the intent to subvert a local election in Fulton County, Georgia. Trump has pleaded not guilty in all four cases.

As the pressure on the Biden administration continues to grow, the Justice Department has been contacted for a response to these allegations of collusion.
