Harris Picks Walz as Running Mate, Sparking Security Concerns

Tim Walz, the Democratic governor of Minnesota, has been thrust into the spotlight as Vice President Kamala Harris taps him as her running mate. While this might sound exciting for the left, it raises eyebrows for anyone with a modicum of concern for border security. Walz’s immigration policies have sailed further left than a yacht in a storm, and with Harris, an already shaky track record on immigration, is looking more vulnerable than a piñata at a children’s party.

Harris’s role in addressing the so-called “root causes” of the border crisis has been questionable at best, especially as illegal immigration numbers have skyrocketed during her term. The selection of Walz, who is known for his commitment to progressive immigration strategies, may rally the left, but it definitely sends a red flag to independents and traditional Democrats who see the chaos at the border and worry about security. Picking a partner who openly advocates for policies that roll out the welcome mat for illegal immigrants is not exactly a hit on the bingo card for common-sense governance.

In a bid to snatch the nomination from Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona, who has shown some spine in calling for sensible measures like completing Trump’s border wall, Walz has made it clear that he’s on the side of those more concerned with making it easier for illegal immigrants than securing the border. The man has fed the progressive beast by suggesting investments in 30-foot ladders to help migrants get over those “nasty” border walls. If that’s not the most absurd approach to border security, it’s hard to imagine what is.

His term has been rife with loaded policies that benefit those who violate immigration laws. Among his colorful contributions is the North Star Promise program, which offers free college tuition for illegal immigrants — because who needs to prioritize America’s citizens when you can cater to those who broke the law? Furthermore, Walz signed legislation permitting residents, regardless of immigration status, to enroll in MinnesotaCare, essentially declaring Minnesota a free-for-all state. It’s like handing out keys to a candy store and expecting the kids to not have a wild time.

Republicans have wasted no time in pointing out Walz’s record, aptly branding him as the poster child for the ‘dangerously liberal’ agenda. Social media is abuzz with comments highlighting his controversial policies, including votes for sanctuary cities and driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants. Even Nikki Haley didn’t hesitate to label the Harris-Walz duo as a step closer to open borders and socialism. There’s a valid concern within the GOP that this partnership signals not just a lack of accountability at the border but a concerted effort to push the limits of what Americans will accept in terms of immigration policy.

As the election gears up, Minnesotans—alongside the rest of the country—are about to witness the absurd drama of a ticket that appears ready to upend any pretense of border security. With Walz at the helm advocating for policies akin to “the sky’s the limit,” conservative voters can expect a fierce battle of ideas. And, sadly, those who value lawful immigration and secure borders are left wondering if Harris and Walz truly understand the difference between a welcome mat and a wide-open door.
