Hospitals New Policy Risks Addicted Newborns for Woke Points!

The folks at NBC Boston have brought to light a concerning change in Mass General Brigham Hospital’s policy that puts newborns in harm’s way. It appears that the hospital system has decided that suspected abuse or neglect of newborns will no longer be reported to state officials if the newborn tests positive for drugs. This decision seems to stem from the fact that the expectant mothers reported for substance abuse were disproportionately black.

According to the Boston Globe, Mass General Brigham officials have defended this policy shift by stating that simply being exposed to drugs, such as methadone or buprenorphine, will not automatically require a report of abuse or neglect. The hospital will now focus on determining if there are other “protective concerns” before reporting any suspected abuse or neglect.

While it’s important to consider the well-being of newborns and the circumstances surrounding their exposure to drugs, it’s also crucial to acknowledge the potential harm that this new policy could bring. By choosing not to report instances of newborns being exposed to addictive drugs, the hospital is effectively allowing the cycle of addiction to continue without intervention, putting the newborns at risk.

Moreover, the hospital’s decision seems to directly contradict its purported commitment to “racial equity.” By disproportionately affecting black mothers who are reported for substance abuse, the policy is, in fact, doing more harm to black children than it is helping their mothers. This well-intentioned but misguided attempt at addressing racial inequities is only exacerbating the problem, as it neglects the crucial need for intervention and support for both the mothers and their newborns.

In essence, Mass General Brigham’s policy shift is not only putting newborns in danger but is also failing to address the root issues at play. While the hospital may have good intentions, its actions are ultimately doing more harm than good. It’s imperative for the hospital to reconsider its approach and prioritize the safety and well-being of newborns, regardless of the race or circumstances of their mothers.

It’s just ridiculous! The hospital is completely missing the point here. Intervening when newborns are exposed to drugs is not about racism, it’s about protecting innocent lives. Let’s hope Mass General Brigham comes to its senses and revisits this dangerous policy.
