President Joe Biden’s history of tough talk on holding people accountable for defying congressional subpoenas has come back to bite him as his son, Hunter Biden, brazenly snubbed a deposition before Congress on Wednesday.
In a classic case of “do as I say, not as I do,” the President had previously urged the Department of Justice to go after those who defy congressional subpoenas, specifically in relation to the Jan. 6 Capitol Hill investigation. But when it comes to his own flesh and blood, it seems those rules don’t apply.
Biden’s own party members, including Rep. Jamie Raskin, had echoed his sentiments, emphasizing the importance of enforcing the committee’s right to demand testimony and documents via subpoenas. Yet, when push came to shove, the Biden family is conveniently finding ways to avoid the same accountability.

Despite the mounting pressure from House Republicans and the threat of contempt of Congress proceedings, Hunter Biden and his attorney, Abby Lowell, are attempting to dodge accountability by opting to testify publicly instead of showing up for the scheduled deposition requested by Republicans.
This is all unfolding amidst the cloud of suspicion surrounding Hunter Biden’s business dealings – from his controversial stint with Ukrainian natural gas firm Burisma Holdings to his shadowy Chinese investments and other entanglements in the United States. And while Hunter may claim that his daddy had zero involvement in all these shenanigans, the evidence says otherwise.
In fact, there’s the glaring contradiction of President Biden denying any financial ties to his son’s business dealings, while the Ways and Means Committee has uncovered a trove of emails showing otherwise. It seems the Biden family’s version of “transparency” involves using aliases to communicate and keep those pesky business dealings under wraps.
The moral of the story seems to be: when it comes to holding others accountable for defying subpoenas, the President talks a big game. But when the spotlight turns to his own backyard, suddenly the rules of accountability don’t seem to apply.
