This week, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had a meltdown after Elon Musk slapped the state-owned CBC Twitter account with the label “government-funded media”. Trudeau accused Musk and Canadian Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre of attacking the CBC by accurately labeling them as state-funded. However, as reported on Monday, CBC is a Crown corporation “wholly owned by the state but operated at arm’s length from government”, and the publication also boasts in its Twitter bio that it is “Funded by and serving all Canadians”. Every year, the CBC enjoys $1.2 billion in taxpayer funding.
In response to Trudeau’s complaint, Musk hilariously suggested that a 70 percent government-funded label would be more accurate. He later slapped them with the label, and when a Twitter account suggested the label should be 69 percent to “give them the benefit of the doubt”, Musk agreed and promptly applied the label. All tweets from the CBC now reflect this label.
Just trying to be accurate. Would they be ok if we said 70% govt funded?

It’s no surprise that Trudeau is so angry about Musk’s accurate labeling of the CBC as government-funded media. After all, Trudeau has been using the CBC as his own personal propaganda machine since he took office in 2015. He has used the CBC to push his own political agenda and to spread misinformation about his opponents. It’s clear that Trudeau is trying to use the CBC to control the narrative and manipulate public opinion in his favor.
Unfortunately for Trudeau, his efforts have been exposed by Musk’s accurate labeling of the CBC. It’s obvious that Trudeau is trying to hide the fact that the CBC is funded by taxpayers’ money and that it is not an independent media organization. By labeling the CBC as government-funded media, Musk has highlighted Trudeau’s attempts to control the narrative and manipulate public opinion.
It’s time for Trudeau to stop using taxpayer money to fund his own propaganda machine and to start being honest about the CBC’s funding sources. The Canadian people deserve to know where their money is going and who is controlling the narrative. Musk’s labeling of the CBC as government-funded media is a step in the right direction towards transparency and accountability in Canadian media.
