In her latest public relations stunt, Harris celebrated the NTEU’s endorsement by promoting her administration’s supposed commitment to fair pay and adequate staffing for federal employees. Ironically, while raising federal employee morale, it’s unclear how well she deals with the taxpayers footing the bill for this “compassion.” With $80 billion in funding aimed at pumping up the IRS, primarily through the Inflation Reduction Act, many taxpayers are left scratching their heads. This act is just another bloated government initiative presented as a boon for the working class while ultimately benefitting bureaucrats.
Political commentators are now having a field day, pointing out that the NTEU has historically funneled money into Democratic campaigns, pouring in 97% of their political action committee money to Democrats during the 2022 election cycle. So it’s a little curious that Harris would want to flaunt this endorsement as a badge of honor. Perhaps, given the union’s heavy lean toward the Democratic Party, the IRS employees see their futures shaped by leaders whose primary concern is growing an already expansive federal government.
It’s even more ironic when factoring in that her campaign has had to struggle to secure endorsements from other important sectors like the Teamsters. While she pulls in praise from those who might benefit from increasing auditor manpower, the lack of support from a major labor group speaks volumes. This tells voters who Harris really stands for. More agents mean more audits, which spells trouble for everyday Americans who work hard to provide for their families.
For the Trump campaign, promoting Harris’s newfound glow from union insiders could be a strategic goldmine. Highlighting her commitment to expanding the IRS at the taxpayer’s expense frames her as an advocate for government rather than the people. The contrast between a powerful union and the concerns of local workers could serve as a rallying cry for conservatives. Instead of a campaign booster, this endorsement might just prove to be the campaign killer that Harris never saw coming.
