As the nominee to become the next House speaker, Kevin McCarthy was asked about his support for Donald Trump. On Tuesday, the former president announced that he would seek the presidency in 2024.
McCarthy did not answer the question about his support for Trump. He also refused to provide his verdict on the former president’s third campaign.
McCARTHY won’t say whether he’ll endorse Donald Trump for president.
Me: “Are you prepared to endorse him [Trump]?”
Silence from @GOPLeader. @KFaulders: “Will you endorse him?”
McCarthy: “You guys are crazy” pic.twitter.com/ppLwIXgB6D

In the recording of the conversation, McCarthy can be heard saying that he’s gotten more followers than he did in the past. He also joked about the shoes that have been pounding the floor of the House of Representatives as reporters try to get his take on the upcoming changes in power in the House.
When asked if he was planning on supporting Trump, McCarthy did not answer the question. He also referred to the reporters as crazy. Katherine Faulders of ABC News pressed him a second time about endorsing the former president and MCarthy replied “you guys are crazy”.
Before the elections last Tuesday, Trump publicly supported McCarthy’s bid to become the next House speaker. He also urged fellow Republican Elise Stefanik to continue serving as the Conference Chair of the House Republican Conference.
