Top Dem Pushes Legislation BANNING Trump From Public Office

According to the Hill, Rep. David Cicilline of Rhode Island is planning on introducing legislation that would prevent former President Donald Trump from running for office once again.

In a letter to his Democratic colleagues, Cicilline said that he would be introducing a bill that would prevent Trump from running for office once again. He noted that the former president carried out an act of insurrection on January 6. He said that the evidence supporting this claim included the House Committee hearings held on the subject and the 2021 impeachment trial.

The 14th Amendment states that no person may hold any office, military, or civil, under the US. Those who support the Constitution of the US, or have previously taken an oath, are prohibited from engaging in rebellion or insurrection.

Trump, who was twice impeached, announced on Tuesday that he would seek the Republican nomination for president in 2024. The House Select Committee on Oversight and Investigations is currently looking into his role in the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. The Justice Department is also considering filing criminal charges against him. Cicilline was one of the individuals who managed Trump's first impeachment trial.
