At the Principles First Summit, Bill Kristol, a prominent conservative who has been a vocal critic of President Trump, suggested that Republicans should back a presidential ticket led by Democratic Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer in 2024. Kristol made this suggestion during a panel discussion about the future of the Republican Party, and the possibility of reforming it from within.

Kristol argued that it is impossible to simply lecture people who have embraced the populist, right-wing rhetoric of President Trump, and that the only way to defeat the Trump Republicans is to join forces with the Democrats. He suggested that a ticket made up of Whitmer and Democratic Virginia Rep. Abigail Spanberger would be the best way to do this.

This suggestion is outrageous and completely disregards the values of the Republican Party. It is an insult to the millions of Republican voters who have stood by President Trump and his policies over the last four years. It is also a slap in the face to those who have worked hard to reform the Republican Party from within.
The suggestion that Republicans should back a Democratic ticket in 2024 is a clear sign that Kristol and his fellow Never Trumpers are out of touch with the Republican base. They are so blinded by their hatred for President Trump that they are willing to abandon their own party and support Democrats instead. This is a dangerous path to take, and one that will only lead to further division within the Republican Party.
It is time for Never Trumpers like Bill Kristol to realize that their views are not shared by the majority of Republicans. The Republican Party is not going anywhere, and it is up to all of us to work together to ensure its success. We must reject Kristol’s suggestion and focus on uniting the party, not dividing it further.
