Trump Campaign Considers Scrapping Outdoor Rallies After Assassination Attempt

The Trump campaign is reportedly setting the stage to scrap its beloved outdoor rallies. This decision comes in the wake of security concerns following an alarming assassination attempt on the former president. An unhinged shooter opened fire during a rally in July, grazing Trump’s ear and tragically killing a supporter, firefighter Corey Comperatore, while injuring two others. The audacity of this attack left many questioning the current capabilities of the Secret Service, putting their protocols under serious scrutiny.

In light of this fiasco, Secret Service officials have advised the Trump team to ditch the outdoor events in favor of more secure indoor options, such as basketball arenas. They’re not suggesting Trump cancel his events altogether—just that he might want to consider venues where the roofs remain intact and not occupied by snipers. While the idea of smaller outdoor events is still on the table, they’re only considering locations with better control over entry points, aka no roofs with a nice view.

Despite the staff shake-ups at the Secret Service, including the resignation of Director Kimberly Cheatle following this debacle, Trump’s enthusiastic fan base isn’t ready to wave goodbye to outdoor rallies just yet. Donald Trump Jr. chimed in, insisting that his father absolutely adores these open-air spectacles. It’s hard to deny that there’s something electric about a Trump rally with the wind blowing through the crowd, as opposed to the staleness of an indoor arena. Who wants to take a selfie with the guy while crammed inside a gym, anyway?

The news of the rally changes arrived with Cheatle’s resignation on the same day. It was as if she became the proverbial sacrificial lamb, following an excruciating hearing where both parties made it crystal clear that confidence in her leadership had blown away faster than a paper banner in a light breeze. Clearly, the Secret Service is facing some serious soul-searching after a security lapse that led to an assassination attempt. Who could have predicted that “If it doesn’t allow free shots, we probably shouldn’t meet there” would end up as the prevailing security philosophy?

This shifting strategy begs the question: what happens to the signature Trump vibe at these events? The outdoor rallies, complete with a backdrop of American flags and willing supporters, capture the essence of Trump. Sure, there’s more risk in the open air, but Trump rallies are about energy, passion, and a chance for his followers to bask in the glory of MAGA. Indoor venues might keep the snipers at bay, but they also risk draining some of that electric atmosphere. One thing is for sure: while security is paramount, it’s hard to imagine Trump fully giving up the stage that inspired so many. After all, if they can’t rally outdoors, raucous gatherings in packed sports arenas might have to suffice. At least until the Secret Service figures out how to keep the rooftops clear.
