Biden’s Justice Department even admitted he’s old and forgetful. This could mean Biden might avoid debates altogether, or if he does participate, it will be in a controlled environment. Democrats might come up with excuses to protect Biden from tough questions.
If Trump really wants a debate, there are other candidates willing to step in. Leftists like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cornel West are on some states’ ballots and would gladly debate Trump. Looking back at history, in 1980, Jimmy Carter skipped a debate, giving Ronald Reagan an edge. Reagan debated an Independent candidate alone, with an empty chair for Carter, and it worked in his favor. Carter later joined a debate, but it didn’t help him win.

If they decline, Trump can host a debate on his own terms, and other candidates will likely join.
