Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced on Friday that, after careful and prayerful consideration, he and his wife have decided not to seek the Republican nomination for president in 2024. Pompeo, a West Point graduate and Army officer, hopes that the upcoming presidential race will be centered on policy issues rather than the personalities of the candidates. He specifically mentioned the importance of addressing deficit spending, which has skyrocketed to $2 trillion a year, and improving military readiness.

Although Pompeo has spent the last two years traveling the country to support various GOP candidates and even published a book, “Never Give an Inch: Fighting for the America I Love,” it appears that he did not receive the level of support he hoped for. Instead, Pompeo plans to endorse a candidate in the GOP primary and offer his help when he determines who the right person is.

During his announcement, Pompeo also indirectly criticized former President Donald Trump, stating that Americans are “thirsting for people making arguments, not just tweets.” Pompeo hopes that whoever the nominee is, that person will engage in robust debates about the issues that matter most to Americans.
Pompeo’s decision not to run for president is a personal one, as it is based on the needs of his family and his belief that he can best impact policy from a different avenue. The former Secretary of State is a principled conservative who is willing to put aside his own desire for power in favor of doing what is best for his family and his country.
