US Betrayal at UN: Refuses to Veto Anti-Israel Ceasefire Demand

In a recent United Nations Security Council decision, the United States surprisingly chose to abstain from vetoing a measure calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was apparently so displeased with this decision that he canceled talks at the White House over Rafah. The left has been pushing for these ceasefires for a while now, and it seems to be in line with their usual anti-Israel stance.

Cheverly, Maryland, a small left-leaning town, shamelessly displayed its liberal priorities when it passed a resolution affirming its commitment to human rights and supporting calls for a Gaza ceasefire. Outraged citizens reached out to Townhall to express their frustration with the one-sided focus of the resolution, which seemed to prioritize the feelings of Palestinians over the safety and security of Israel.

The resolution barely mentions the October 7 attack perpetrated by Hamas against Israel, which was the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust. It neglected to address the fact that Hamas not only targeted Israeli citizens but also committed heinous acts against men, women, and children, including rape, torture, and kidnapping of hostages. The resolution’s lack of specifics and failure to condemn Hamas demonstrates a concerning moral equivalency between the actions of terrorists and Israel’s right to defend itself.

It’s disturbing that the resolution glosses over Hamas’s role in the conflict and even equates “Israeli and Palestinian lives.” This oversight fails to acknowledge the root cause of the crisis and conveniently ignores Hamas’s violation of previous ceasefires.

Citizens of Cheverly voiced their dismay at the town’s misplaced priorities, citing issues like poor water quality, rising crime rates, and neglected infrastructure as more pressing concerns. They pointed out the irony of a liberal-run town finding time to pass a resolution on Gaza while neglecting local issues.

Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen has been vocal in his support for an immediate ceasefire, raising concerns over aid to Gaza. His stance on Israel has also drawn criticism, with Maryland rabbis expressing unease about his rhetoric. Meanwhile, former Republican Governor Larry Hogan, who is vying for a Senate seat, emphasized his support for Israel’s right to defend itself. Hogan highlighted the challenges Israel faces and condemned antisemitism, positioning himself as a strong advocate for Israel.

Hogan’s leadership in standing up for Israel sets him apart from those who have been hostile toward Israel in the Senate, including his political opponents. He has consistently championed Israel’s right to self-defense and has taken a firm stance against the hostility directed at Israel.

As the debate around the ceasefire continues, the contrasting approaches of Maryland’s political figures reflect the broader divisions in the political landscape, with Hogan’s unwavering support for Israel standing in stark contrast to the positions of his opponents.
