Debt Ceiling Drama: Democrat Leader Predicts Riots

House Democrats continue to go off the rails with their bizarre and concerning remarks on raising the debt ceiling, with Chair of the Progressive Caucus, Rep. Pramila Jayapal, predicting “a huge backlash” in the streets should Democrats not get their way. It’s astonishing how casually and nonchalantly she talks about the possibility of violence, even implying riots as a potential outcome. But what’s even more egregious is the double standard and hypocrisy at play, as this kind of rhetoric would’ve been labeled as “stochastic terrorism” if it were coming from a Republican. The mainstream media would’ve already been calling for an FBI investigation, but since Jayapal is a member of the Democratic Party, she remains unscathed.

It’s not just Jayapal who’s making outrageous statements. Other progressive Democrats in leadership positions are also spouting nonsense, like Rep. Pete Aguilar, who chairs the House Democratic Caucus, blaming Republicans despite the Democrats being the ones who passed a plan to raise the debt ceiling. And Rep. Burgess Owens, a Republican from Utah, has tweeted out a helpful graphic highlighting the timeline of Republicans taking action and the president’s inaction. It’s clear that Democrats are complaining about a plan that includes work requirements for benefits, something that Biden himself proposed as a senator, and returning unspent COVID-19 relief funds. In fact, what Democrats are bemoaning is a plan that returns to spending levels from fiscal year 2022, which is something they were all too happy to champion at the time.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, a Democrat from New York, also complained about the timeline and used inflammatory language about “MAGA Republicans,” falsely accusing them of being involved in “hostage-taking.” His attempt to play it down as something else fell flat, as it’s clear what Jeffries meant. Yet again, it’s the Democrats engaging in this kind of shameful discourse, while Republicans continue to advocate for common-sense solutions.

It’s worth pointing out that Biden has rebuffed House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s attempts to negotiate on raising the debt ceiling for months, so the Democrats have no one else to blame for the crisis they’ve created. On top of that, even progressives are opposing any negotiations on the issue. Conservatives are rightly concerned about the Democrats’ continued recklessness and disregard for America’s fiscal future.
