In a bold move to protect law enforcement officers and crack down on the deadly fentanyl crisis, Governor Ron DeSantis flexed his political muscles and signed off on two new bills aimed at making Florida safer.

The first bill, Senate Bill 718, slaps reckless adults with a hefty second-degree felony charge if they dare to expose first responders to fentanyl, which could lead to a nasty overdose or serious bodily harm. It’s about time someone stood up for our brave men and women in uniform who put their lives on the line every day to protect us from the dangers lurking in our communities.
But that’s not all – DeSantis also gave the green light to Senate Bill 66, which designates June 6th as Revive Awareness Day and instructs the Florida Department of Health to raise awareness about the perilous threat of opioid exposure. With this new legislation, the state is putting its foot down and saying, “Not on my watch!”
During a news conference in Sanford, DeSantis pulled no punches, making it clear that fentanyl isn’t just a southern border problem – it’s a problem that’s infecting communities from coast to coast. He called out the Biden administration for its failure to secure the southern border and noted that the unchecked flow of fentanyl is fueling record-breaking opioid overdose deaths across the country.
And let’s not forget about the sneaky way fentanyl is slipping into the hands of unsuspecting victims. DeSantis highlighted the insidious practice of lacing recreational drugs with fentanyl, essentially turning a night of fun into a life-threatening nightmare. It’s a good thing we’ve got a leader like DeSantis taking charge and protecting our citizens from falling victim to this deadly poison.
But the governor didn’t stop there – he also expanded the state’s Coordinated Opioid Response network, showing that he’s not just talking the talk; he’s walking the walk when it comes to combating opioid addiction.
With DeSantis at the helm, Florida is taking a stand against the Biden administration’s failures and refusing to let our law enforcement officers become casualties in the battle against fentanyl. It’s clear that Governor DeSantis is committed to keeping Florida safe and leading the charge in the fight against opioid abuse.
