Gay Priest Invited to Notre Dame for “Queer Holiness” Event

An event called "Queer Holiness" is scheduled to take place next week at the University of Notre Dame. The event page indicates that the discussion will focus on "Experiential Christian Anthropology." The Center for Spirituality at Saint Mary's College is co-sponsoring the event with Notre Dame, and Rev. Dr. Charlie Bell, a gay deacon in the Church of England and the author of the book "Queer Holiness," is leading it. The book's argument is that theology can be done in a more inclusive way by involving and considering LGBTQI individuals, rather than simply discussing them.

The upcoming event is in stark opposition to the recent statements made by Pope Francis, who stated that although homosexuality is not a crime, it is considered a sin. He has also referred to "gender ideology" as one of the "most dangerous ideological colonizations." Despite the fact that the University of Notre Dame's mission is "defined by its Catholic character," the event they are hosting contradicts the teachings of the Catholic Church.

The fact that the University of Notre Dame is organizing an event that contradicts both the teachings of the Catholic Church and the Pope is worrisome. What is even more worrying is that the event's objective is to promote an agenda that does not align with Catholic beliefs. The event's stance is insulting to the convictions of a significant number of Catholics and should not receive any support or endorsement from Catholic institutions.

The University of Notre Dame must be held responsible for their actions and should not be granted permission to promote an agenda that is incompatible with the Catholic Church's teachings. This event should be disallowed from taking place on campus and cancelled without delay. It is imperative that Catholic institutions remain faithful to their convictions and principles, and holding events like this one undermines them.

It is also concerning that the University of Notre Dame has invited a transgender abortion doula to speak for the school’s “Reproductive Justice” series. This further shows that Notre Dame is willing to go against the teachings of the Catholic Church in order to promote an agenda that is not in line with their beliefs.

The University of Notre Dame should be held accountable for their actions and should not be allowed to promote an agenda that goes against the teachings of the Catholic Church. It is important for Catholic institutions to remain true to their beliefs and values, and hosting events such as this one goes against those beliefs and values. It is time for Notre Dame to take a stand and cancel this event before it does any further damage to their reputation as a Catholic institution.
