GOP Warned: Don’t Ditch X While President Donald Trump Uses It

Republican campaigns are chasing shiny new toys. TikTok dances, influencer shout-outs and AI-crafted ads are all the rage. That makes sense — but it also risks ignoring the hard-won edge conservatives found on the X platform after Elon Musk took charge. If GOP teams forget what worked in 2024, they could trade a megaphone for a mixtape and wonder why the room goes quiet.

The new playbook: TikTok, AI and short-form video

Party operatives and the RNC have moved fast into TikTok, short-form video and AI tools. That’s practical. TikTok reaches young people in huge numbers. Short-form video is cheap, fast and shareable. AI helps produce content and test messages at speed. So yes, Republican campaigns should use TikTok and AI. These tools are good for recruitment, persuasion and getting on the feeds of voters under 30. But “use” is different from “abandon.”

Why X still matters

The X platform is where political conversation happens. A bigger share of X users say they use the app to follow politics than on any other platform. President Donald Trump and many top Republicans still use X as a direct line to voters and the news cycle. Independent analyses also spotted a clear boost for Republican-aligned accounts after platform shifts in the 2024 cycle. That gave conservatives a concentrated, high-impact place to drive headlines and shape narratives. You don’t throw away a loudspeaker because a new band started playing across the street.

Platform tradeoffs: reach vs. influence

Different platforms do different jobs. TikTok finds young eyeballs. X shapes headlines and political debate. AI scales production. The smart strategy is to match the tool to the job. If campaigns pour resources into TikTok and neglect X, they risk weakening the concentrated political-broadcast effect that helped win big fights. If they only use X, they will miss younger voters who live on short video. The obvious answer is balance, not amnesia.

A simple prescription for GOP digital teams

Republican campaigns should diversify, not disperse. Keep X as the go-to channel for rapid narrative shaping and presidential messaging. Use TikTok and influencers to recruit and persuade younger voters. Use AI to speed testing and content creation, not to replace careful message control. Track ad spend and measure what moves the needle. In short: don’t be the team that forgets the loudspeaker because the new kid on the block has good lighting. Stick with what works, add what helps, and keep winning the air war where it matters.
