Elon Musk, the man behind those fancy electric cars and outspoken opinions, has gone and made another one of his wild predictions. This time, he’s yammering on about how artificial intelligence, or AI for short, is gonna outsmart humans in just two years. Yeah, you read that right – two years.

In one of those fancy interviews with a big shot from Norway, this Musk guy blabbered about his thoughts on AI. He even went as far as using some fancy terms like “artificial general intelligence,” or AGI for short, to make it all sound even more dramatic. According to Reuters, he’s convinced that AGI will be smarter than the smartest human by 2026, or even as soon as next year. Can you believe it?
But hold your horses, folks. It’s not all rainbows and butterflies for Musk and his AI dreams. See, his own AI company, xAI, is struggling to make things work because of a chip shortage. Apparently, those little computer chips are crucial for developing their AI chatbot, Grok. Despite these pesky setbacks, Musk is still gushing about how AI will change the world. Typical.
And guess what? Musk isn’t the only tech smarty-pants who’s spouting off about the rise of AGI. There’s this DeepMind co-founder fella, Shane Legg, who’s also saying that AGI could rear its head within the next decade. He even thinks there’s a 50-50 chance it’ll happen by 2028. Now, that sounds mighty spooky, don’t you think?
But hold on just a minute. Don’t start panicking yet. There’s a whole bunch of smarty-pants researchers out there who aren’t buying into all this AGI talk. They’re saying there’s no clear agreement on what AGI even means. Sounds like a big ol’ mess, if you ask me.
But wait, there’s more. Musk’s xAI was looking to rake in a whopping $6 billion in funding, with a fancy valuation of $20 billion. Now, that’s a boatload of cash! But some folks are saying it’s all hogwash. They’re calling out Musk’s AI chatbot, Grok, for being nothing more than a troublemaker programmed to crack lousy jokes.
