South Carolina GOP Representative Nancy Mace has emerged victorious in her state’s Republican primary, defeating challenger Catherine Templeton. Supported by former President Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson, Mace secured enough votes to advance to the general election in November.
Templeton, who was endorsed by former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, has a background as the state’s former director of labor, licensing, and regulation. She previously ran for the Republican nomination for governor of South Carolina in 2018 but did not succeed.

Mace’s primary victory positions her to compete against either former International African American Museum CEO Michael Moore or lawyer Mac Deford in the general election. Despite these potential challengers, the Republicans are anticipated to retain the seat in November.
