Tampa Mayor Jane Castor, a true crime-fighting superhero, recently made headlines for her daring exploits on a fishing trip in the Florida Keys. While reeling in a big catch, Castor and her family stumbled upon a package “about the size of a microwave.” Now, you might think they stumbled upon a gift from Neptune himself, but no, it was 70 pounds of cocaine worth over a million dollars! Talk about a jackpot.
But instead of keeping the illicit goods for herself and living out her days as a drug lord in the Sunshine State, our honorable mayor did the right thing. Castor immediately called the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office to report her outrageous find. See, folks, this is the kind of responsible behavior we need in our elected officials.
Now, Miami Herald had to dampen our hero’s glory by claiming this wasn’t her first rodeo. They reported that it was actually the fifth package found that month by a “recreational boater.” But come on, who are we going to trust? Some nameless boater or our trusted mayor who spent thirty years in the Tampa Police Department, including eight years in narcotics? I think we all know who the true drug-busting expert is here.
And let’s not forget the daring rescue mission that followed. The next day, a local officer and two federal agents swiftly whisked the package away, no doubt to bring those drug traffickers to justice. It’s a shame we don’t hear more stories like this. The brave men and women of law enforcement putting their lives on the line to combat the scourge of drugs. It brings a tear to the eye.

But let’s not overlook Mayor Castor’s own personal journey in this ordeal. She admitted that her family was initially concerned that they would be mistaken as drug traffickers. I mean, who wouldn’t be? I’m sure they were just one wrong turn away from being pursued by helicopters and hounded by federal agents. It’s a good thing Mayor Castor, being the clever strategist she is, pulled up the package and made that crucial cellphone call to avoid any further misunderstandings.
In the end, this story is a testament to the resilience and heroism of our elected officials, especially those with a background in law enforcement. Mayor Jane Castor’s bold actions remind us that no matter where we are, whether we’re fishing or running a city, we must always stay vigilant in the face of danger.
