Residents of East Palestine, Ohio have been left frustrated and disappointed by President Joe Biden’s lack of response to the Norfolk Southern train derailment that occurred on February 3rd. The derailment led to a controlled burn that released hazardous chemicals, including vinyl chloride, into the air and water. Despite the EPA sending officials to the crash scene within two hours of the derailment, Biden has yet to make an appearance in East Palestine.
Former President Donald Trump visited East Palestine on February 23rd and criticized Biden for his lack of response. Republican Ohio Governor Mike DeWine also spoke out, saying that Biden should come to East Palestine and that the people want to see him. Biden has only made vague promises to visit, saying he will be there “at some point.” His Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has said she is not aware of any new travel plans for the president.

It is clear that President Biden is not taking the situation in East Palestine seriously. He has been too busy with other matters, such as “popping Chinese balloons,” to make a visit. This is a stark contrast to his predecessor, who made sure to visit the town and show his support for the residents. It is unacceptable for the President of the United States to ignore a disaster in one of our own towns.
It is time for President Biden to put his political agenda aside and show some compassion for the people of East Palestine. He needs to make a visit and show that he is committed to helping the people affected by this disaster. The residents of East Palestine deserve better than empty promises and lip service from their president. It is time for President Biden to step up and show that he cares about the people of East Palestine.
