President Joe Biden’s tendency to embellish stories about his past has been called out by the mainstream media, particularly his recent claim that he visited Ground Zero the day after the 9/11 attacks. CNN hosts fact-checked the president after his speech in Anchorage, Alaska, where he claimed to have rushed to pay his respects at the site of the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history. However, Biden, who was serving in the U.S. Senate at the time, was actually in Washington D.C. as the Senate met to condemn the attacks.
The media is growing increasingly skeptical of Biden’s embellishments, with one CNN reporter stating that the president has a pattern of inventing or embellishing stories about his own past. The reporter cited examples such as Biden falsely claiming to have witnessed the 2022 collapse of a bridge in Pittsburgh, falsely claiming his grandfather died days before he was born, and inventing a conversation with a deceased Amtrak train conductor. Furthermore, Biden has made false claims about being arrested at a civil rights protest, driving an 18-wheeler long-haul truck, and visiting the Pittsburgh synagogue where a mass shooting occurred in 2018. None of these events actually took place.

In addition to these embellishments, President Biden has made other false claims, such as falsely stating that his son Beau died in Iraq when he actually died from brain cancer at Walter Reed Memorial Hospital. During the 2023 State of the Union, Biden also claimed that fast food workers are being forced to sign noncompete agreements, a statement that was met with boos from Republicans. It is crucial for the media and the public to remain vigilant and fact-check the president’s statements to ensure the truth is being accurately conveyed.
