For almost fifteen years, World Central Kitchen, led by Chef Jose Andres, has provided emergency food assistance. But recently, in the midst of the Israel-Hamas conflict, seven team members tragically lost their lives in an Israeli Defense Forces airstrike while delivering food supplies in Gaza. Chef Andres has been hanging out with prominent Democrats like Nancy Pelosi and Jill Biden, so it's understandable that he's been raising a lot of noise about the attacks in the media, as if that weren't bad enough.
In a New York Times op-ed, Andres, who has been getting close to Democrats, came out strongly against the attacks on his group. He was careful to highlight the nonpartisanship of his group, but we all know how close he is to the Democrats, don't we?
Even the European Commission jumped on board, sending a ship to Gaza that was laden with supplies from Andres's organization, and President Joe Biden even intervened, declaring intentions to open a port on the sea to boost access to food aid. How about receiving some significant political support?
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu apologized on behalf of the IDF for the incident in an unusual move. Naturally, World Central Kitchen staged a dramatic announcement that it was stopping operations in Gaza. Say it with me: #dramatic.
Andres has previously been in the limelight on several occasions. His group has been active since the 2010 earthquake in Haiti and is currently providing food for people in Ukraine as a result of Russia's incursion. What a hero for humanity, you say?
Sen. Chris Van Hollen and Senator Bernie Sanders are among the Washington Democrats who are agitated at the attack on Andres's organization and insisting that the Biden administration take more action to address the Gaza humanitarian crisis. Everyone loves to assign blame, but people, accidents do happen from time to time. Let us avoid making snap judgments.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken was eventually forced to weigh in and denounce the attacks as well. He took sure to poke fun at Israel while highlighting the bravery of humanitarian workers. Naturally, Chef Andres concluded his opinion piece with some thought-provoking remarks. What a show!
It appears that through his humanitarian work, Chef Andres has emerged as a significant political figure, shaking hands with Democrats and making news for sad incidents. But keep in mind that there are always two sides to any story, people!
